News update: The Sikkim state government announced on Wednesday to open Yumthang valley in Lachung village for tourists, a week ago when it was permitted similar relaxations in other popular destinations such as Tsomgo Lake, Nathula and Baba Mandir.
Sikkim Tourism India – a local travel organiser in the state that operates tourism activity in the North Sikkim Village, welcomed the decision and said that strict adherence to COVID guidelines will be ensured.
In next step state government will decide on opening up another much visited destination of Gurudonmar Lake in Lachen village in North Sikkim for tourists after conducting meeting with Lachen Dzumsa next week.
Corona Pandemic Rules, Restrictions and Guidelines
After a tremendous hike in Coronavirus cases, tourist destinations in the Himalayan state were shut down for visitors from March this year. The Sikkim Tourism Department has in July started allowing tourists with fully vaccinated certificates to enter the state via Rangpo in East Sikkim and Melli in South Sikkim after producing their double dose vaccination certificates at the checkpoints. Tourists, those who are fully vaccinated do not need to show RT_PCR Tests reports.
For those tourists who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine need to produce a COVID-negative certificate of RT-PCR test that is not older than 72 hours. Meanwhile the Sikkim government has allowed hotels, homestays and guesthouses to operate at 50 per cent capacity, by strictly following COVID-19 protocols.
