Thangu valley is situated at 3950 M and having altitude of 13000 ft which is enroute of Gurudongmar Lake and Chopta Lake. The valley is having great view when mountains are covered with the white snow in the morning during October to March. The same place would have no snow over the mountains during afternoon. This valley has picturesque view with alpine flower scene during summer season between May to June month. It is located at the alpine plateau and it provides the trek routes to Chopta Valley and Muguthang. Whenever you are planning your trip to Thangu valley, you have to be well organized and staying here should be pre planned.

This place is near to the Chinese border and only Indians are allowed to visit here while foreigners can reach to Chopta village which is few kilometers away from here. The glimpse of the rows of trees looks mesmerizing the more you access upward directions in Thangu valley. This is one of the most scenic destinations in North Sikkim. Thangu valley is the spectacular gateway for all age groups.

Thangu Valley Temperature And Best Time To Visit :

The temperature there at Thangu remain 10 degree c to 28 degree c and temperature varies time to time. Thangu is quite harsh at winter as lakes and rivers freezes but you will again have the glimpse of unique scenes. Summers are having moderate temperature. The best time to visit Thangu between Novembers to June.

Thangu Accommodations :

There are few accommodations with basic facility available at Thangu. Having accommodations here is not easy task because you need to get the permission from Army. Tourist can be granted permission by Army to enjoy the Thangu valley’s beauty and feel the paradise on earth.

How To Reach :

Getting there in Thangu takes an hour when tourists are coming from Lachen which is only 27 km away. It is better to stay at Lachen hotels or Thangu basic accommodations to enjoy Thangu valley and other nearby surrounding area.

Air : From Lachen drive to Thangu is uninterrupted mode of transportation and distance covered will be 27 km only.

Road : Bagdogra is close to domestic airport of Lachen and reaching to the destination will take around 4 hours.

Rail : The closest railway station is New Jalpaiguri and from that stop you can take a private taxi or cab or bus. The distance you need to cover is upto147 km.
